World Theatre Project launched its first theatre offering in 1996 with Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, featuring Dina Bonnevie as Blanche Dubois and Raymond Bagatsing as Stanley Kowalski. Anton Juan and the WTP’s company of well respected actors mounted classical theatre pieces that were welcomed by audiences of mostly students, validating the premise that there are not enough productions of classical theatre pieces, and that there is a demand for this not solely to complement classroom studies of classical literature but for well-crafted productions as well. After Streetcar WTP went onstage with such classics as Antigone, Medea, Yerma, Othello and Our Town. The company attracted actors such as Nieves Campa, Roy Alvarez, Frances Makil, Shielu Bharwani, Ricky Abad and Judy Ick.
